So You Want To Race?

While many are waxing boards or skis and praying for snow, a select few are scheming about road racing. There was a great turn out at the BCC “So you want to race” meeting—20 to be exact, 13 team members and 5 board members. The goal of the meeting was to provide information to current racers along with those looking to get started with racing.

Attendees received the 2009 BCC Racing Bible telling about the team; background, 09 race focus, requirements, costs, & web technologies available. We’re excited for the next race season as the team’s focus has sharpened. To improve racing performance we’re planning training rides coordinated with super series rides, as well as some other goodies. It also looks like there will be a group of masters women looking to get into racing.

My #1 take away from the training meeting

"If you haven't started training for 2009 by now you're behind" - or something to that effect was uttered by Bill as he was quoting a coach he'd recently talked to.

There were plenty of other good discussions. The training future looks great!

So You Wanna Race? meeting

We are going to have a "So You Wanna Race?" meeting sponsored by BCC Racing for Bonneville Cycle Club members and guests at the Anderson Library (1135 South 2100 East) on December 1st at 7:00 p.m-8:00 p.m. This meeting is to provide information and answer questions for those who are currently racing and those who would simply like to learn more about how to get started racing. And, what it takes to get started racing with the BCC Racing Team. We will discuss the basics of how to get started, our 2009 training plans, and what races we plan to focus on in 2009. Members of the Team will be in attendance and participating in the meeting and all Bonneville Cycle Club members are invited along with guests of Members who may be interested in joining BCC and BCC Racing.

LOTOJA Casserole

Allrighty. Call me a food addict. I probably spend more time looking up recipes than I spend researching fitness articles. Maybe if I reversed that I could lose some weight. :)

Here's a (sort of) cycling related recipe for any of you food lovers. I haven't tried it but the name caught my attention. It's called LOTOJA Casserole. I'm gonna have to try it out sometime.

City Creek Bike Sprint

As the ghosts & goblins were laid to rest, some BCC racing members sprinted up city creek. Eric Dupuis, Matt Fairbourn, and Stan Young rode 5 miles with 1400 verticle feet of elevation. It was a nice fall morning with a slight chill in the air the higher you climbed. The scenery on the leaf covered, winding road of City Creek Canyon was hauntingly beautiful. Nice work guys!!

Hello Punisher !!!

This is a short post at Eric's house as he teaches us how to manage the google group and post to this blog. I just may erase or edit this later. Boogey boogey boogey!!! Eric, Stan(Home Boy), Jerry, Stephen, and Adam attended, with Tim showing up after riding to Layton from his house in SLC. We're all getting pretty dangerous now. :-)

Say hello to The Punisher

In the last few weeks I have been acquainted with The Punisher. This person who calls himself Bill appears to be quite the training guru; he offered great advice during our Huntsville and Midway rides, and had a great plan on specifically what to work on during the rides.

Why The Punisher you ask? Not only does The Punisher crush you in the flats, climbs, or downhills for miles and miles to wear you down, he then throws in impromptu "Bill Wins" sessions that consist of someone named Bill riding a Time bicycle selecting a point to sprint to and taking off in a flash. This is followed by a few seconds of catching your breath and hearing "ok, that sign over there...GO!"

You have been warned.

All kidding aside I am excited to experience the wealth of information communicated through the planned structured training sessions from The Punisher and other training gurus.

Tour of Park City

This is a perfect place to share our racing photos! I stole this one from Kym Crnich so I'd better give her the credit. Everyone (except me) lined up before the start of the 2008 Tour of Park City. If you want a better copy let Kim or me know! Or just click on the photo.

Also Eric, is there a way to subscribe to the blog so we get notified when there's something new?

This is a blog.

Welcome to the BCC Racing blog.

This first blog entry will attempt to explain what a blog is expected to be for. You can see Wikipedia's definition of a blog for all the details, but here's the way I see it: A blog is mainly a journal, a diary, a location to post news articles. A blog is not a place where we typically have "intelligence" or "features" such as an event calendar, a ride database, all the cool stuff people want to have access to. The place for those things is a web site, such as BCCUtah.org. The plan is to create such a web site for BCC Racing specific needs at BCCRacing.org. Later. Don't go there now, it's not gonna work too well. Really. No, really.

Having said that, I hope we can have a large number of contributors to this blog. Everyone involved in BCC Racing is invited to write blog entries and / or comment on existing blog entries.

Suffer with friends.
